Functional medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.
Providers are successfully applying the functional medicine model in many different settings: small, large, cash-based, insurance-based, institutional, and private. Some of the more common models in which functional medicine is being practiced are listed below. However, no single, optimal model for practicing functional medicine exists, and in reality, clinicians tend to practice a hybrid of two or more models.
As a Certified PA, I focus on identifying and addressing the underlying cause of an illness, rather than just suppressing symptoms. I use a variety of tools including a detailed questionnaires, a thorough medical history and examination, and comprehensive laboratory tests (blood, urine, stool and in certain cases saliva testing).
I then use nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, supplements, stress management, detoxification, lifestyle changes, and, in some cases only when necessary, prescription medications to eliminate triggers and restore proper function and balance. My goal is to provide you with personalized care. Together we go back in your personal time-line to try to identify what triggers, what antecedents cause your illness.
